On Saturday, 19 March the 107th edition of the Milan-San Remo professional race, the longest classic on the World Tour circuit. On Sunday the 20th, the Granfondo San Remo-San Remo will allow cycling enthusiasts to relive the excitement at first hand, covering the final kilometers of the course. Then on 5 June, the Milan-San Remo Cicloturistica will face the entire course.

r all cycling fans on 19 and 20 March: on the Saturday, San Remo will host the 107th edition of the Milan-San Remo professional race, a classic monument to the world of cycling, while on the Sunday cyclists will be able to relive in person the excitement of the “Classicissima” thanks to the Granfondo San Remo-San Remo, which will follow the final kilometers of the route.

The Milan-San Remo, a challenge that is included in the World Tour calendar, is the longest race of the season, with its 293 km that goes from Milan to the Italian Riviera, along which it faces the Passo del Turchino, the mythical “Capi” on the Aurelia, and the thrills of the concluding section, the Cipressa and the Poggio di Sanremo, before arriving in the “City of Flowers”.

For 2016, the Milan-San Remo finds itself taking place on the occasion of the day that honors San Giuseppe, on 19 March, precisely the day that from 1937 until 1977 was the official date for holding the event. The arrival time is planned for between 16.30 and 17.00.

On 20 March, the granfondisti can enjoy a taste of the race by attempting the route of the Granfondo San Remo- San Remo “la Classicissima“, starting from San Remo at 9:30 a.m. It will head towards Imperia before going into the inland territory, before returning again to the coast and tracing the route of the race of the professionals, climbing the Cipressa and the Poggio di Sanremo. The finish line for the amateurs will be the summit of Poggio, making it safer and easier for their return to San Remo.

Registration for the Granfondo San Remo-San Remo “la Classicissma” is open, as described on this page, at the cost of € 30, valid until 29 February. From 1st to 16th March, the fee will be 40 euros. On Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March it will be possible to register only at the secretariat at the location of the event, at the Palafiori on Corso Garibaldi in San Remo, when the fee will be 45 euros.

The route of the Ligurian challenge, which is nearly 120 kilometers long, going up to an altitude of about 2400 meters, has been changed. The last 30 kilometers will mirror the final of the Milan – San Remo professionals, with an uphill finish on the Poggio di Sanremo.

23 December, 2015, San Remo (Im) – The second edition of the Granfondo San Remo–San Remo “Classicissima” will take place on Sunday, 20 March, on a route that is new with respect to that of 2015.

The first part of the route will remain unchanged, with the participants, after the start on the Calvino seafront in San Remo, heading towards Imperia, to begin the climb to Colle San Bartolomeo.

After reaching the top of the hill, at the 50th kilometer of the race, the cyclists will take on the descent towards Chiusavecchia, following alongside the Impero river to Sarola. Then they will turn left towards Gazzelli, and once again cover the first 7 kilometers of the ascent towards Colle San Bartolomeo. However before reaching Cesium, the route turns left, leading on to the SS28 that takes you back in the direction of Imperia.
The Granfondo San Remo-San Remo “la Classicissima” from this point will follow the last part of the Milan – San Remo professional race, which will be held the day before: in San Lorenzo al Mare the cyclists will take the fork for Costarainera, conquering the legendary “Cipressa” with a 5 km climb, then head down again towards the coast, following the Aurelia until they get to Arma di Taggia.

Just before reaching San Remo the route follows the road towards the Poggia di San Remo: at the end of the 3.2 kilometer climb, the granfondisti will arrive at the finish line, after traveling a total of 119.5 km, along which they will have achieved an altitude of about 2400 meters.
After the arrival, participants will be able to return to San Remo in complete peace, following the panoramic descent of the Poggio, and enjoying the fantastic scenery of the Riviera of Flowers.

11 December 2015, San Remo (Im) – On Sunday 20 March the second edition of the amateur race, the Granfondo San Remo-San Remo known as “la Classicissima”, the competition dedicated to cycling enthusiasts who already in 2015 have attended one of the most important events in the calendar of professionals worldwide, the Milan -San Remo.

The setting for the show will be the Riviera of Flowers: the start will take place from the Italo Calvino on the seafront in San Remo (Im), with the granfondisti who will head for Imperia and then into the interior, to climb the Colle San Bartolomeo hill.

Rejoining the coast, next will come the Civezza, the Cipressa and then the Poggio of San Remo where the participants will face the final challenges. The finish line will be posted right at the top of the Poggio, after a distance of 108 kilometers when its fields will be reached, at a good 2000 meters of altitude.

The finish line at the summit of the Poggio will allow all the participants to return back quietly to San Remo, following the brief descent and thus avoiding the city traffic on the last kilometers of the competition.

The Granfondo San Remo-San Remo “la Classicissima” will also be valid as the fourth stage of the Gran Premio Costa Ligure 2016.
